As of 2015, Boston University (BU) was ranked #41 among national universities by U.S. News and World Report. In addition, Boston University offers three online courses ranked in the top 10 among online programs in business, criminal justice, and computer information technology. BU offers an online graduate certificate program in physical education, health education and coaching designed for a variety of students, including licensed teachers, fitness workers and amateur coaches. However, the program is not currently accepting applications since it is on a moratorium until further notice. Florida State University

Florida State University offers a graduate certificate program in coaching entirely online. This program is designed for coaches at all levels, and applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree in order to qualify for admission. In order to earn the certificate, students must complete four courses:

- Motor Learning for Coaches
- Sport and Exercise Psychology
- Advanced Coaching
University of North Georgia
This school offers a master’s program in physical education designed for graduates of bachelor’s programs in exercise science, health, athletic training or similar fields. Students must complete 30 semester hours of coursework in order to graduate, and topics can include prevention of athletic injuries, history of physical education, coaching theories and motor skills. The program culminates in a final project, but does not lead to initial teacher certification.
