New Paramedic Academy

Launching this Fall 2017

Spring 2018

The next paramedic academy begins spring semester 2018. Applications are now being accepted until November 30 2017. Prerequisite course EMS-1 begins with the Winter Intersession January 8, 2018.

The program was completely reimagined using feedback from local fire and health care agencies. The program is now more intensive and streamlined, while still providing students with the classroom and hands-on experiences they need to make an immediate impact on the job. The Paramedic Academy courses are also scheduled so that students can graduate in as little as 8 months. New labs and equipment have also been added for the program. The goal of Mt. SAC’s Paramedic Academy is to prepare competent entry-level Paramedics in the cognitive (knowledge), psychomotor (skills), and affective (behavior) learning domains. The core courses also provide a path to an Associate in Science Degree in Emergency Medical Services.

Since 1987, Mt. SAC has been providing quality paramedic training and is accredited by the Committee on Accreditation of EMS Programs (CoAEMSP) and Committee on Accreditation of Allied Health Programs (CAAHEP) through 2021. Program outcomes data can be found here.

The Paramedic Academy includes a 16-week intensive didactic (classroom and skills lab) program. This is followed by six (6) weeks of Clinical Internship in several hospitals, followed by 10-12 weeks of Field Externship as a practicing Paramedic Intern under the guidance and supervision of a Paramedic Field Preceptor. Individual placement of students in Clinical and Field internship slots is provided by the Program. As some clinical and field locations may be 50 miles away from Mt. San Antonio College, reliable transportation is required throughout the program.

You must be a currently certified Emergency Medical Technician with 1200 hours of field experience to apply to the Paramedic Program and maintain EMT certification throughout the entire duration of your training.
